Kathryn Sobocinski

Kathryn Sobocinski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Marine and Coastal Science program at Western Washington University. She is an applied marine ecologist focusing on fishes, fish habitats, and impacts of human disturbance and climate change in coastal ecosystems. She currently works on projects related to salmon survival in marine ecosystems, interactions between salmon and their prey and competitors, quantitatively assessing the cumulative effects of estuarine restoration for salmon, and marine ecology related to anthropogenic change within the Salish Sea and beyond. She was the lead author for the State of the Salish Sea report published through the Salish Sea Institute. She teaches classes in statistics, fisheries science, marine fish ecology, and marine science. Dr. Sobocinski has a BA from Connecticut College, MS from University of Washington, School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, and a PhD in Marine Science from the College of William & Mary, Virginia Institute of Marine Science. She completed post-doctoral work at Oregon State University and NOAA-Northwest Fisheries Science Center before joining the faculty at WWU
