James Miller, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Comparative Indigenous Studies in the Department of Urban and Environmental Planning & Policy at Western Washington University. A Kanaka Maoli scholar, architect, and community planner, Dr. Miller’s work explores the built environment through a lens of Indigenous futures and decolonial theory. Dr. Miller’s research examines placemaking/ placekeeping through Indigenous design knowledge. Dr. Miller holds Ph.D. in Sustainable Architecture (University of Oregon), a Master of Architecture (University of Oregon), and a Bachelor of Architecture (University of Notre Dame).
